Well, we are still in the hospital - now the "guess" discharge day is Tuesday. It seems there are new minor setbacks everyday but also positive steps forward. Tom has been off his oxygen all day today, no breathing treatments required today, and he is waking the halls well. The main issue today was nosebleeds-about six of them in 8 hours- when one is on blood thinners, nosebleeds can be quite an experience. But things have quieted down now, so hopefully that is behind us.
Tom's dad, sister Shirley, and brother in law Jack came to see him today from Illinois. It was very good to spend some time with them. Brad (our son-in-law) stayed all night with Tom last night and took wonderful care of him. Cindi is staying tonight, so I will have gotten sleep two nights in row!
Hope yo all had a good Sunday! Tom and I spent some time worshipping here in the hospital room. It is so awesome to feel God 's presence even in a hospital room!

ReplyDeleteI was really hoping to go back in time to read old blogs about football or some strange Illini controversy from 10 years ago but alas this is mostly serious stuff. Just a little hospital fyi when my daughter is ready to be discharged she just starts biting nurses and they decide she is well enough to go home, I don't know how old you have to be for this to work. Debbie I can't help you much with the monitors but it has been my experience to ignore them as much as is humanly possible, think about how dumb the average family is and know you aren't expected to do anything too crazy and most things have auto alarms that are reasonable.
ReplyDeleteOne fun game to play in the hospital is to find what websites are blocked on the hospital wifi. For instance in one children's hospital, intagram is blocked and twitter is but you can still get twitter feeds and Facebook so that is real weird. Can take a couple of minutes and is mindless fun.
I also think it is really weird that Tom would have this huge cancer surgery and college football negotiation with God and neither one of you is blinking, kind of like the idiots in DC. So Tom just be a little rationale on this and even though they are the underdog it is hard to imagine a universe where God is not a notre dame fan.

Thanks for the encouraging update, Debbie. Love you both!
ReplyDeleteI fully understand the worship in the hospital room. I never felt more connection to Him through the love and care of friends and the nurses than when I had my little episode. I felt humbled and grateful, and totally undeserving of the love and concern shown me. Then again, those that know me well have no difficulty understanding that I AM quite undeserving. Nevertheless, I found the overall experience to be a great blessing and life-changing event. May you experience peace in the midst of the uncertainty.

Glad to hear you are both doing well. Tom's probably having the nose problems from beating himself up over the Packers' loss. At least now his calendar should be open to watch the Colts next weekend.
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness though, we are praying for you daily, and glad to hear of Tom's good spirit. May God continue to watch over you and allow you to have a meaningful impact on those you encounter at the hospital.
And of course, Go Blue!
So happy to hear you are getting some much needed rest, Debbie.

I'm so glad Grandpa and Aunt Shirley were able to come visit. I wish we could visit, but I hope you can feel our love from here!
